Serving Black Newcomers, Immigrants, Refugees, and Vulnerable Families Since 2011
Founded on May 27, 2011, Afri Cynel Humanitarian Organization is a trusted frontline community organization serving Edmonton, Alberta. We exist to support Black newcomers, immigrants, refugees, and vulnerable families as they navigate the complex realities of settlement, integration, and daily survival in a new environment.
We deliver essential, community‑based support that enhances the safety, dignity, and well‑being of vulnerable seniors. Our Seniors Services program is designed to ensure that older adults, particularly those facing poverty, isolation, disability, or displacement can age with independence, respect, and meaningful connection.
Afri Cynel Seniors Services provides a continuum of non‑medical, person‑centered supports that enable older adults to remain safe and engage in their communities. Through culturally responsive practices, and community outreach, we addresses the growing needs of seniors who lack adequate family support or face barriers accessing traditional services.
At Afri Cynel, we understand that the challenges faced by Black newcomers are layered and often invisible to mainstream systems. Food insecurity, social isolation, economic instability, mental health struggles, youth disengagement, and elder abuse are not isolated issues. They are interconnected realities that require culturally responsive, compassionate, and practical solutions.
We serve as a safe first point of contact for individuals and families in crisis. Our approach is rooted in dignity, compassion, and empowerment. Every person who walks through our doors is met with respect, understanding, and support informed by lived experience.

We provide wrap-around humanitarian services that address immediate needs while supporting long-term stability. Our core services include culturally appropriate food hampers, settlement and navigation support, crisis intervention, and community capacity building.
Through more than a decade of service, Afri Cynel has become a pillar of trust within the Black community, ensuring no one is left behind due to systemic barriers or lack of access.
Afri Cynel Seniors services and programs improve safety, independence, and emotional well‑being for older adults and seniors, who would otherwise be at risk of isolation, neglect, or institutionalization. By strengthening community support systems and empowering seniors to remain active and engaged, Afri Cynel contributes to healthier families and more resilient communities. Afri Cynel has the capacity to reach more seniors, enhance caregiver training, and strengthen outreach to underserved populations. Afri Cynel is directly involved in improving the quality of life for vulnerable older adults and seniors, and supporting a more equitable, and compassionate community.
